What you actually need as a private owner

Almost every warning light a private owner will ever see comes from four systems: the engine, ABS, airbags (SRS) and transmission. You don't need bi-directional control, ECU coding, or CAN FD/DoIP support for this - those solve professional workshop problems, not "why is this light on." A focused four-system scanner does the job for a fraction of the price of a workshop tablet.
